Today's Young People Are Facing Real Pressures

Youth and young adults are navigating anxiety, loneliness, family conflict, social-media pressure, identity concerns, dating challenges, and uncertainty about the future.

Dr. Kwame Institute partners with churches, schools, and community organizations to create safe and engaging conversations that help young people develop emotional strength, healthier relationships, and practical coping skills.

"Young people don't need more rules — they need safe conversations, honest relationships, and practical tools that actually work in their world."

— Dr. Kwame Frimpong

When Parents and Young People See Mental Health Differently

In many immigrant and multicultural families, parents and children may understand mental health in very different ways. First-generation parents may view emotional struggles through the lens of faith, discipline, family reputation, survival, or cultural expectations.

Second-generation children may use language such as anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional safety, boundaries, or burnout. These differences can make it difficult for parents to hear what their children are trying to communicate.

Our Programs Help Families
Understand first and second-generation perspectives
Recognize cultural differences in discussing mental health
Listen without judging, correcting, or spiritualizing
Help young people express emotions respectfully
Reduce stigma surrounding counseling
Build trust across cultural and generational differences
